The 1996 Australian Kookaburra 1 oz. silver coin features a kookaburra in full flight, designed by Jovan Radanovich. The obverse presents Raphael Maklouf's depiction of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Kookaburras are large terrestrial kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea. They are best known for their unmistakable call, which sounds like loud echoing human laughter. The first silver one ounce Kookaburra was issued in 1990 by the Perth Mint.
